Description

Alpe d’Huez is a winter sports resort in the French Alps. It is at an altitude of 1860 meters, on the southwest flank of the Pic Blanc. It is located in the massif of the Grandes Rousses, a massif in the southwestern Alps.

Alpe d’Huez served as the finish line for the Tour de France 31 times through 2022. The climb begins in the village of Le Bourg d’Oisans, is 13.8 km long, and has an average gradient of 7.9%. The total elevation gain is 1,061 meters. The mountain was first climbed in the 1952 Tour during Stage 10 (Lausanne–Alpe d’Huez), which was won by Fausto Coppi. It was the first Tour stage ever to finish at the top of a mountain. At that time, the finish line was still in the village of Huez, about halfway up the climb, which is now climbed all the way to the summit. The mountain was last climbed in 2022 as the finish of the twelfth stage. Wikipedia
