Cirque de Troumouse – Luz St Sauveur
Description
It has an average diameter of 4 km and is at an altitude of about 2,200 meters. It is one of the largest cirques in the Pyrenees and in Europe. The cirque of Troumouse is surrounded by the Pic de Bounèu (2726 m) to the southwest and the Pic de la Sède (2694 m) to the northeast. It consists of several peaks, namely the Hèche de Bounèu (2704 m), the Pène Blanque (2905 m), the mont Arrouy (2888 m), the Pic de la Munia (3133 m), the Petite Munia (3096 m), the Pic de Serre Mourène (3090 m), the Pic Heid (3022 m), the Petit Pic Blanc (2957 m) and the Pic de Gerbats (2904 m). The last three peaks form the wall of Barroude.
The valley is accessible by the road to Gavarnie, the departmental road 921 (former national road 21). Then take the direction of Cirque de Troumouse via the departmental road 922 which passes through the valley of Héas and ends at the Auberge du Maillet, where parking is free (except in summer).
