Les Deux Alpes – Lac du Chambon
Beschrijving
In cycling, Les Deux Alpes is a climb that starts at the Chambon reservoir and arrives at the Les Deux Alpes winter sports station. The climb is also known as the smaller brother of the Alpe d’Huez. More specifically, it concerns the section of road D213 from its beginning at the reservoir to its arrival in the ski village, about ten kilometers away. The trail lies entirely in the territory of Mont-de-Lans, a borough of Les Deux Alpes.
The mountain is best known for the Tour de France. Yet there is rarely a finish at the top of the mountain. In 1998, Marco Pantani took great distance from Jan Ullrich and increased his lead from 4 to 9 minutes on the climb, which is not that tough. He donned the yellow jersey for the first time. Wikipedia
