Beschrijving

Pico Veleta is a 3,396-metre-high mountain in Granada province in Spain. The summit is, after Mulhacén, the highest point in the Sierra Nevada and the fourth highest mountain in Spain.

There is a paved road up to a few metres below the summit, but it has been closed to motorised traffic for years, at an altitude of about 2,500 metres, so it can no longer be counted as Europe’s highest road. The road, which comes from Cenes de la Vega, is undiminishedly popular with car manufacturers for testing new models, which are usually heavily camouflaged driving up and down several times.
