Description

Pico Veleta is a 3,396-meter-high mountain in the province of Granada in Spain. The peak is, after the Mulhacén, the highest point in the Sierra Nevada and the fourth highest mountain in Spain.

There is a paved road up to a few meters below the summit, but it has been closed to motorized traffic for years, at about 2,500 meters altitude, so it can no longer be counted as the highest road in Europe. The road, which comes from Cenes de la Vega, is undiminishedly popular with car manufacturers for testing new models, which usually drive up and down several times, heavily camouflaged.
