Beschrijving

Plateau de Beille is a winter sports resort in the French Pyrenees. The place is located in the Occitanie region in the Ariège department.

Plateau de Beille has been arrival point in the Tour de France six times. The first three times, the eventual Tour winner won the stage. In 1998, Marco Pantani won the uphill finish. In the 2007 Tour, it was Alberto Contador who managed to beat Michael Rasmussen in the sprint. Also in 2011, Plateau de Beille was included as the finish location and there Jelle Vanendert crossed the line first.

Lance Armstrong also won on Plateau de Beille (twice, in fact), but after his 7 Tour victories were taken away, those 2 stage wins were also forfeited. Wikipedia
